About Me

Hey! I'm Dr. Kortnee

Nice to meet you!

I’m a metabolic health specialist with a passion for helping people feel their best.

I live in Portland, Oregon with my fiancé and two cats (Gouda and Dilly - yes they’re both named after dairy products). I hate sitting for long periods of time and try to spend more time outside than I do indoors. But let's skip the small talk and jump right into the details.

1 - What's different about me?

It’s my outlook on healthcare and my mindset!

Throughout my entire life I’ve always been the one that does things differently. You say there’s only one way to do this? Doubt that. You’re saying it doesn’t get better? Suspicious. You say that can’t be done? Well let me show you.

Looking at things in a different way, thinking outside of the box, THAT’S MY SUPERPOWER.

Take your health goal for example. You’re here because you need new eyes on it. Something’s not working for you and you’re not happy with the current options out there. I’m that new set of eyes.

TLDR; My superpower is being an outside-of-the-box thinker.

2 - WHAT'S METABOLIC HEALTH?

Metabolic health is all about how your body produces cellular energy (ATP). ATP is produced through a process called Metabolism. ATP is the body’s energy currency and it powers everything that we do. Without it, we wouldn’t exist.

For this next part, I want you to imagine a perfectly clean shower drain. That sucker drains so smoothly... Time goes on, and now your drain is starting to clog up. You’re noticing decreased flow, but at this point it’s not really bothering you. However, this is the first clue that your drain needs to be cleaned. Let’s say you ignore it to the point that water is now filling up as you're actively showering! The drain can’t keep up with the constant water demand. At this point what do you do? For a drain, you unclog it.

Your mitochondria are very similar. The first clue's that “your drain needs to be cleaned” may present themselves as brain fog, sugar cravings, migraines, hanger, restless nights, or more. When you ignore it, these symptoms then present themselves as chronic conditions such as, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimers, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and more. Fortunately, there is a simple solution: lifestyle modifications.

Lifestyle modifications are some of the easiest ways to positively influence your mitochondria and metabolic health.

3 - WHAT'S MY EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND?

I’m a licensed chiropractor! I earned my doctorate from the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon.

Ever since I was 12, I knew I wanted to be a doctor. For the longest time, I planned on becoming a sports medicine doctor, but after shadowing different docs I realized something; I wasn’t happy with the outcomes these doctors suggested. Deep down I knew there was more to getting people better; and it didn’t have to be stopping your beloved activity, receiving cortisone shots, or yet another prescription.

So, when I shadowed a chiropractor, my mind was blown. Why? People were getting better. People were leaving with smiles on their faces. I’ve never seen this before. Instantly, I knew this was the path for me.

4 - WHAT DO I VALUE?

Not settling for the status quo. I value bravery, growth, and change. I value curiosity and vulnerability. I believe people can change and we’re all doing the best that we can with the information and tools we have. I believe our actions speak louder than words and our minds are more powerful than we think.

5 - WHAT DO I NERD OUT ON?

CHEMISTRY! Especially biochem and cooking chem. I love thinking of the little molecules dancing around doin’ their thing.

6 - WHAT DO I DO FOR FUN?

Mountain biking, climbing, running, cooking, baking, birding, naps outside in the sun, walks, and frequenting my local farmers market.

PS - That's me biking the Whole Enchilada in Moab, UT.
